Silk Industry in Lyon

The city of Lyon is not far from my husband’s home village and we like to hang out there when we go to France. The two rivers, the Saône and the Rhône, divide the arrondissements (neighborhoods) into three sections. Vieux Lyon, in the 5th arrondissement, has amazing Renaissance architecture and I think we discover something different with each visit.
Lyon has a history in the silk industry and the Saint Georges section is where the silk weavers first settled in the beginning of the 16th century.
For instance, the last time we were there, we popped into la Soierie Saint-Georges. (11 rue Mourguet – 69005 Lyon) It’s a silk shop that has a little museum inside.
It was beautiful and fascinating to see the looms, threads, and incredible fabric. It was so hot outside, and I have to admit that it was also a welcome break from the heat!
